Desktop Support Engineer
Location: New York, NY
POC: Director of Information Technology & Information Systems
The William J. Clinton Foundation Desktop Support Engineer will have a clear understanding of the business value of IT and proficiency in utilizing technical expertise to provide complex technical support (daily and on-call) for desktop, servers, network systems, phone systems and applications. She/he will exhibit excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills. This position will report directly to the William J. Clinton Foundation's Director of Information Technology & Information Systems based in New York.
Daily Tasks
The Desktop Support Engineer is responsible for supporting and troubleshooting all desktop technical/nontechnical issues related to the desktop environment (end-user). End-user request received in the Helpdesk queue (Service Desk- Technical Issues Repository) will be managed by the Helpdesk Support and the Desktop Support Engineer to determine the proper course of action of the end-users request.
Such daily tasks will include but not limited to the following:
- Computer/laptops and external peripherals management.
- New user desktop/laptop configuration (building and deploying user hardware)
- Setting up email accounts
- Adding users to Active Directory
- Setup group policy
- oftware installation
- Windows Updates
- Setting up email accounts
- Copiers/Printers/Faxes configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Phones support for Avaya, and ShoreTel telephony Systems; which include digital and VoIP technology.
- Blackberry deployment, technical support.
- Working with third party vendors, and contractors.
Project Responsibilities
- Desktop Support Engineer will be responsible for developing standardized desktop images for local and global deployment.
- Develop a software and hardware inventory list and process to assist in deployment planning of desktops and laptops.
- Testing applications for compatibility and mitigate the compatibility issues discovered during the process.
- Set up an initial lab environment with deployment and imaging servers.
- Customize and package applications. Automate desktop image creation and deployment.
- Ensure that the desktop is hardened (Secure) to improve security within the environment.
- Manage processes and technologies to produce a comprehensive and integrated deployment.
- These projects shall be implemented and deployed using the Microsoft industry standard for best practices for desktop Engineering.
- Desktop Images well be review by the Systems Engineers and Network Security and Design Engineers.
Skills Required
- Extensive knowledge of supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft XP Professional
- Extensive knowledge of supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft Office 20032007
- Strong Knowledge of Active Directory
- Strong knowledge of VMware
- Strong knowledge of Imaging of desktops/laptops using Norton Ghost
- Strong knowledge of Application packaging tools such as Wise Application Studio
- Strong understanding of Desktop to Server relationships
- Strong Blackberry troubleshooting.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Qualified candidate will have 2+ years' of hands on Desktop Support Engineering
- Microsoft Certification is a plus in one of the following preferred: (MCP, MCSE, MCSA) BA degree preferred
- Excellent inter-personal skills
- The ability to work well with team
- Good verbal & written communication skills
- Strong problem solving skills: ability to assess a problem and determine an effective course of action
- Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
- Ability to be on-call for nights support, weekend and off hour support
- Ability to work independently and be proactive with job responsibilities
- Flexibility to work at multiple New York office locations
