2013 CGI Annual Meeting: Wednesday Highlights

On the second day of the 2013 CGI Annual Meeting, members continued to mobilize their commitment-making efforts and build relationships with future partners. See below for key highlights from today:

1. Secretary Clinton Announces New CGI Commitments to Action focused on girls & women

2. EXPANDING CROSS-SECTOR COORDINATION in HAITI

This discussion - featuring remarks from President Clinton and panelists including Sean Penn - explored the successes and challenges faced by the CGI Haiti Action Network and continued cross-sector coordination in the country.

3. MORE THAN 10 NEW OCEANS-FOCUSED COMMITMENTS

In the "Vital Resources" session, CGI members from across sectors came together to announce new commitments generated from their ongoing collaboration. In 2014, the CGI Ocean Action Network will be established to continue the momentum of these existing efforts.

4. Lessons from the front lines of WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP

CGI members learned from the progress and experience of existing Commitments to Action in a session focused on women's leadership. Participants included actress Kate Hudson and Kay Krill, president and CEO of ANN INC. Watch the full session.

5. CLINTON GLOBAL CITIZEN AWARDS

Tonight, the 2013 Clinton Global Citizen Awards honored seven exemplary individuals. Remarks were be given by President Bill Clinton, Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mary Robinson, Nicholas Kristof, Ben Affleck, and M. Sanjayan. The evening’s musical entertainment, produced by Randy Jackson, included performances by The Roots, Elvis Costello, Fatoumata Diawara, and other special guests.
