Last week, President Bill Clinton joined President Barack Obama and former Presidents George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas.

The idea of community service is as old as America itself. Older really. Benjamin Franklin helped form the first volunteer fire department in Philadelphia in 1736, spawning a movement that continues to this day in communities throughout the country.
