Commitment to Action

The Adolescent Girls Initiative

Commitment by

Government of Liberia, Nike Foundation

At CGI 2008, the Nike Foundation and the World Bank partnered with the governments of Liberia and Denmark to commit to pilot an innovative model that seeks to boost adolescent girls' economic empowerment through skills training and employment. The model utilizes a range of interventions to promote the economic empowerment of adolescent girls and young women. These include business development skills, training and services, and technical and vocational training, targeting skills in high demand. Additionally, girls receive life-skills training to address the most important barriers to the development of adolescent girls' economic independence as well as business development services.
