Alliance for a Healthier Generation

School Meals Agreement

Building on industry agreements that have reduced the number of beverage calories shipped to schools by 88 percent, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation is now focusing on helping provide more nutritious meal options to more than 30 million school children nationwide. In January 2011, though a voluntary agreement brokered by the Alliance, 14 leading food manufacturers, group purchasing organizations, and technology companies agreed to help America's schools serve healthier meals at affordable prices. Food manufacturers who have committed to offering healthier options include AdvancePierre Foods, Domino’s Pizza, JTM Food Group, McCain Foods USA, Rich Products Corporation, Schwan’s Food Service and Trident Seafoods. Group purchasing organizations including HPS, Premier and Summa will use their buying power to make healthier products more affordable. By working with industry leaders, the Alliance is working to remove the barriers – cost, availability, and time – that prevent school districts from offering healthy options to their students.
