Investing in Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency
CCI is helping to advance the AFL-CIO’s commitment, made at CGI America 2011, to mobilize $10 billion in workers’ pension funds to invest in making U.S. infrastructure more energy efficient. The commitment also aims to provide workers at all levels with high-demand green construction skills.
Since June 2011, the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust (HIT) has invested $165.6 million in the energy efficiency retrofit of six multifamily housing projects in five states (New York, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, and Minnesota) with a total development cost of $220.6 million, thereby refurbishing 3,338 affordable housing units and creating 1,071 jobs. Other notable achievements include an $800 million investment in California infrastructure, a $15 million investment to retrofit Oregon public schools as part of the state’s Cool Schools initiative, and a $3.2 million retrofit construction project and energy services agreement for the AFL-CIO headquarters building.
CCI is creating a pipeline of investment opportunities across the country and working to bridge the gap between investors interested in investing in clean energy and energy efficiency projects and these potential investment opportunities.
