Large-Scale Solar Program
Economies of scale have the potential to drive down the costs of solar power. CCI works to implement programs with solar technology including photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar thermal power (CSP). Both use panels typically made of variations of semiconductor material, which capture and convert sunlight directly into electricity. CSP enhances the amount of sunlight directed onto a unit area of the semiconductor material by using a series of mirrors and lenses. Both technologies emit no carbon and can supply a meaningful portion of electricity demand in countries with high levels of sunlight. CCI has been recently working with governments in India, South Africa, Australia, Morocco, China, and Malaysia to develop these large-scale solar programs.
