Raising A Social Entrepreneur

Share

Growing up, “we” was a word I was taught to use much more often than “me”. I was raised in an environment where a strong emphasis was placed on my family and my community, and social justice and civic engagement define who I am. I have kept these values close to me throughout my life, instilling them in my own children. I believe in innovation; I believe in inspiration and I believe in ambition. These are the attributes I value most in life, and I seek to place my daughters in motivating environments where they can exercise their creativity. I am proud to see these principles take root and blossom in my daughter, Jodi, as she serves on the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Youth Advisory Board.

Jodi is a natural born leader!  I believe it’s my responsibility to hone and shape her leadership skills, so that she leads her peers to make positive, healthier changes in their lives and communities.

Every day is full of promise and possibilities, and I remind Jodi of that every chance I get.  With an overwhelming schedule and a desire to achieve the impossible, I hope and pray that she remains my little ball of energy and that the spark in her eyes never dies. Whether it’s health and fitness, the environment or civil rights, it doesn’t matter.  What matters is that she seeks to learn and grow, inspires others to make positive changes, and aspires to do great things in life.
