Gordon Carver

Project Director, Varkey Foundation

Gordon Carver, M.D. is the project director for the Varkey Foundation’s development work across Africa, with particular focus on West Africa. Carver oversees the 23 person team delivering Making Ghanaian Girls Great! He also designed and oversees the technology enabled Teacher Training pilot project, which intends to improve pedagogy of 400 School Heads and 4,000 teachers in Ghanaian government schools over the next 2.5 years.

Over the past two years, Carver has overseen the Centre for Education Innovations East Africa Hub in Kenya and Uganda, and is now extending his work with Results for Development (R4D) to undertake a study of multi-sector innovation models across Côte d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Liberia. Carver has a special focus on government PPP policy (school vouchers), distance learning provision, and education economics. Previously, he worked as a strategy consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers in London. Carver is a graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, and Yale University.
