On April 9, 2012, the U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed Wendy Spencer’s nomination to serve as the CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Before joining CNCS, Spencer served eight years as the CEO of the Florida Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism, commonly known as Volunteer Florida. During the state’s record-breaking 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons, Spencer led the largest mobilization of volunteers in the history of U.S. natural disasters at that time. She received the prestigious 2005 Governor’s Award from Gov. Jeb Bush for her leadership of this effort. On July 15, President Obama named Spencer co-chair of the Task Force on Expanding National Service, which aims to identify additional ways that the public and private sectors can partner together to support national service as a strategy for tackling national priorities.
