Commitment to Action

Accelerating Access to Financial Services

Commitment by

Barclays plc

In 2008, Barclays, CARE International UK, and Plan UK committed to forming the Banking on Change partnership to improve the quality of life for poor people in Africa, Asia, and South America by extending and developing access to basic financial services. Using a community-led savings model, this work will enable individuals in local communities to join together in self-governing groups to save regularly and access small loans from a group fund. With this three-year, $16 million commitment, partners aim to provide approximately 400,000 people with access to finance.
