Actualización de Maestros en Educación (Professional Development for Educators/AME), a project of the Fundacion Cisneros will launch a new course entitled 'Education, Human Development and Combating Poverty.' The course, which will reach primary and secondary school teachers and students in low and medium income communities across Latin America, will promote AME's long-standing goal of developing teachers' skills and knowledge and, consequently, improving student performance. By enhancing public education in Latin America, this program will contribute to creating the foundation for successful democracy and economic development in the region.
Borrowing from the successful application of an entertainment technology to increase literacy rates in Venezuela, Patty and Gustavo Cisneros established AME in 1998. AME was created as a pan-regional, direct, technology-based learning and teaching system with an interactive, constructive, and collaborative design that fosters public and private sector partnerships.
AME aims at filling the strategic gap in primary and secondary school teacher training and development, empowering teachers by enabling them to take advantage of new technologies as learning tools for themselves and for their pupils. The program is motivated by a belief that high-quality public education is the basis of successful democratic governance and economic growth.
