This builds on Operation Hope's commitment to empower five million youth in America by 2012. Banking on Our Future provides year-round financial education for 4th - 12th graders at no cost to schools. The program consists of five modules, including:
1) Basics of Banking
2) Checking & Savings Accounts
3) The Power of Credit
4) Basic Investments
5) Dignity
Each Building on Our Future (BOOF) module lasts for 45-minutes and can be delivered during a regular classroom session or as part of an after school program. Banking on Our Future is taught by volunteer Banker-Teachers who are trained by Operation HOPE, Inc. to break down their knowledge of banking into terms that youth can understand.
Banking on Our Future is administered by HOPE staff, who coordinate all activity with participating schools and local volunteers. Schools typically request one module per week for four weeks, but the schedule can be tailored to match the needs of the school. During the first module, students are each provided with a Student Guide, which covers the basic principles of the entire curriculum, including definitions of key terms, practical application of the learning material, and money tips. Upon conclusion of the fourth module, students receive a certificate of completion.
