On August 21, 2007, King's Academy, under the leadership of Dr. Eric Widmer, will open its doors to its first batch of 9th and 10th grade students. Enrollment for the 2007-2008 school year will exceed 100 students, who will be joining the Academy from a range of geographical and socioeconomic backgrounds. In addition, the 42 members of the faculty join the school from around the world to set in motion a rigorous AP curriculum, introducing a course of study new to Jordan and the region. Blending an American style of education rooted in the liberal arts and sciences with Middle Eastern history, traditions, language and cultural values, the Academy will feature close teacher-student interaction, the most current technological resources and a stimulating array of curricular and extracurricular activities designed to help students flourish intellectually and personally. The opening of King's Academy marks the realization of His Majesty King Abdullah's goal to bring an American-style boarding school education to Jordan and King's Academy's commitment to providing an unparalleled education to students from the region. Following years of planning, ambitious fundraising and construction, as well as discussion and formulation of curriculum, King's Academy opens its doors and embraces its motto 'floreat scientia,' or 'let knowledge flourish.'
