BrazilFoundation/Fundo Carioca commits to a two-year program of activities to address the challenges of underprivileged youth in Rio de Janeiro and help them acquire the tools necessary to succeed in the marketplace. The expectation of BrazilFoundation is to continue the project, scaling the benefits and developing transference of technology to other public schools using learning tools with sustainability.
In the city of Rio de Janeiro, both underserved youth enrolled in public schools and the 250,000 youth who are neither studying nor working (IPEA, YEAR 2013) face poverty, very limited educational or vocational training opportunities and negligible public attention to their life. Across Brazil, public high school dropout rates are extremely high among 14 to 24 year olds (65 % of whom are girls) and unemployment, despite an expanding marketplace, is rampant. BrazilFoundation/Fundo Carioca have the objective to strengthen efforts of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that work with youth and with teachers in Rio de Janeiro's public high schools to provide collaborative and interactive learning opportunities, leading to practical and measurable achievements in retention rates and employability. BrazilFoundation/Fundo Carioca's experience in the last three years, grant making to NGOs and mobilizing corporate sponsored job training as well as avenues for artistic expression to youth in Rio's low income communities, demonstrates that youth blossom when presented with opportunities that excite their imagination and enable them to acquire skills that further their education and vocational skills.
Financial Resources: BrazilFoundation is seeking corporate partners who will help scale this project. For the second year, BrazilFoundation is seeking media and advertising partners with capability of providing internships and training as well as potential job openings for qualified youth.
Execution phase: Implementation partner in Education Area; NGOs working in education, vocational training institutions, academic institutions; Professional Educational institutions working with partners for curriculum development; Companies that need young talents and offer professional development expertise and resources.
BrazilFoundation offers its know-how and track record as implementing partner to corporations that want to contribute to professional training of underserved youth in Rio, and require for their specific sector of activities young and qualified talent.
