Collaborative Learning: Paths to Jobs for Underserved Youth

Commitment by

Brazil Foundation

In 2013, BrazilFoundation/Fundo Carioca committed to implement a two-year program to address the challenges of underprivileged youth in Rio de Janeiro and help them acquire the tools necessary to succeed in the marketplace. As an expansion of its past work, the BrazilFoundation will forge partnerships with new schools, grassroots NGOs media and advertising corporations to mobilize and train public high school students for careers in advertising and communications. The BrazilFoundation will work with corporate partners (particularly those with potential to offer internships and job opportunities) in designing training programs in news production, graphic design, photography, and computer skills. In the first year the BrazilFoundation will test the project in two schools to determine best practices in order to scale the project at a lower cost to an additional ten schools in the second year. A total of 360 students will benefit from this project, 65% of whom will be girls and women.
