September 2009 - Dalai Lama Center will convene a Nobel Education Summit to be held September 21-24. The Dalai Lama and a contingent of Nobel Peace laureates will be invited to Vancouver to participate in a global symposium on 'Educating the Heart'.
To explore the creation of a Vancouver laboratory school mandated to balance the education of the mind with education of the heart. The school will seek to foster social and emotional well-being as well as academic excellence in students from an early age. Its curriculum will be informed by the latest advances in neuroscience, psychology, and education pedagogy. This prototypical project is designed to catalyze the creation of a network of like-minded schools in North America. It will involve an innovative public/private partnership-a collaborative effort that involves the Dalai Lama Center and British Columbia's Ministry of Education, major universities, and district school boards.
