Over the next year, The Remarkables commits to connecting students at universities and colleges in North America and in Great Britain with successful entrepreneurs, known as Remarkables, through live video streaming and recorded content. These interactions will focus on 'why' and 'how' each problem solver approached their purpose and the lessons they learned throughout their journey, inspiring students to design purposeful careers and informing them as to how to achieve their goals. Each Remarkable is selected by a committee for their uncommon life perspective and commitment to sharing raw truth so that others may learn from them. They are extraordinary examples of the human ability to overcome obstacles, see opportunity, pioneer change, and make the world a better place.
The Remarkables will reach out to universities, colleges, and student organizations to set up opportunities for the students to connect with remarkable entrepreneurs. At agreed upon times, The Remarkables will connect the community using an online platform with a Remarkable for one-hour live interviews in which the attending students can learn from and ask questions of the Remarkable entrepreneurs. After each event, successfully recorded content will be posted online for all organizations to access.
The Remarkables enables people to think better by connecting them with remarkable people who have impacted the world by thinking differently. The Remarkables will be responsible for coordination and streaming technology. Remarkables will donate their time, unless corporate and/or collegiate sponsors are secured for his/her engagement.
Throughout the summer of 2013 (May-August), The Remarkables will reach out to colleges, universities, and student organizations throughout North America and Great Britain to identify communities within their institutions who can come together to connect with entrepreneurs. As part of this outreach, The Remarkables will work to emphasize the importance of entrepreneurial initiatives within higher educational institutions.
Once 20 student groups have been identified at different colleges and universities, The Remarkables will determine the appropriate remarkable entrepreneur and subtopic (i.e. social good, agriculture, technology) and organize schedules for live, direct video streams. The Remarkables will also work to schedule online events in which multiple student groups can access a Remarkable at one time.
Throughout the 2013-14 academic year, The Remarkables will produce these events. For direct connections, on the mutually-scheduled connection date, The Remarkables will connect the community and Remarkable through a video stream, and equip the undergraduates with information and questions to initiate discussion with the streamed-in entrepreneur. For the online events with multiple communities, questions will be collected from participants prior to the event and the event will be streamed online.
By April 15, 2014, The Remarkables plans to have produced more than 20 connections between undergraduate communities and remarkable entrepreneurs. At this time, The Remarkables will evaluate its performance and set an achievable objective for the following academic year.
Entrepreneurship is often discussed as a cornerstone for economic growth, job creation and the only viable approach to solving the greatest social and environmental challenges of our time. However, entrepreneurship is a difficult concept to understand in the abstract, as it manifests itself differently by industry and individual role. Tomorrow's leaders, the university undergraduates of today, need to be equipped with the entrepreneurial thought process in order to approach their purpose in the world, regardless of what that might be, with a solutions-oriented mindset. The opportunity, thought process and accessibility associated with entrepreneurship is best understood when communicated by the individuals who have been entrepreneurs - those who have taken the risks, failed forward and found ways to solve problems using their talents and passion.
