In 2013, carbon dioxide emissions comprised 82 percent of all U.S. greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere from human activities. The rising concern for our environment and the sustainability of the planet has led to more focused efforts on reversing the effects of climate change.
Haiti Exemplar Community Settlement
In 2010, Deutsche Bank, with Digicel Foundation, John McAslan + Partners, and the One X One Foundation committed to launch the Haiti Exemplar Community Development Project, a planned model settlement for 125 to 500 families in Zoranje, a community situated 30 km north of Port-au-Prince. This commitment will define a template for building housing settlements, as well as a rubric for the inclusion of renewable energy, education, and culture when planning future communities. In addressing questions such as how residents are selected, how land and structures are to be owned and occupied, and how to best achieve a mixed income community, the Exemplar Community will offer best practice lessons. The project is overseen by a committee of prominent Haitians from all sectors of society, receiving advisory support from a university partnership forged between Harvard and MIT University.
In March, students from over 75 countries and 300 schools came together in Miami for CGI University, where they made hundreds of Commitments to Action that address pressing challenges on their campuses or in communities around the world.
