The AY Foundation, the social development arm of the Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC), is committed to provide funding support for the construction of a health center that will help provide adequate medical care to our Muslim brothers in Paglat, Maguindanao. The foundation will also provide the equipment and staff to operate the clinic until the local government of the municipality can manage the clinic on it's own. The AY foundation projects that they will have to run the programs for two years before turning them over to the municipality.
The foundation is also committed to provide funding for the construction of a school building in Gen. Salipada K. Pedatun which will include necessary furniture; this project will uplift the educational quality of the area. In addition, the school building will be used as a venue to conduct a Teachers' Training Program held by one of the members of the YGC, the Mapua Institute of Technology. The program aims to train elementary and high school teachers of Paglat and Gen. Salipada K. Pendatun to use available community resources as teaching methods and strategies.
These projects will be executed with the cooperation of the local government units of both municipalities.
These projects were initiated and implemented through Ambassador Alfonso T. Yuchengco's (founder of AYF) desire to reach out and help improve the quality of life of the Muslims in Mindanao. Ambassador Yuchengco believes that much of the conflict between the Christians and the Muslims stems from economic problems. Thus, both areas were selected due to the predominantly Muslim populations and the lack of adequate healthcare and educational facilities.
