In 2014, ClaimVets committed to underwrite the costs to recruit and train 200 veterans to become claims professionals; facilitate the procurement of adjusters licenses; and provide access to career mentoring, office skills training and job placement services through the CLM support network of over 25,000 members. Additionally, once employed, ClaimVets will ensure veterans succeed through continuing educational and networking opportunities. The target is to have 25 graduates hired by January 2015 and an additional 125 in 2015.
ClaimVets will recruit veterans through several different avenues. The first is to attend Hiring Our Heroes Job Summits, starting in July, which will provide direct access to hundreds of transitioning veterans. Additionally, ClaimVets may advertise the opportunity in select online publications. They will establish relationships at the VETS Job Centers, the TAP/Family Service Centers and Community Colleges to identify candidates. Interested veterans will be screened through an online questionnaire to determine if they have the appropriate skills. If the test results indicate a likelihood of success, they will be invited to participate in the ClaimVets program.
ClaimVets is currently working to develop a web-based testing and training program on an independent platform. Completion is expected at the end of August. The inaugural training program is anticipated to begin in September 2014. It will involve an estimated 70 hours of study. While in training, ClaimVets will assess the individual's interests as to placement and relocation. Assistance with job placement skills will be addressed simultaneously.
For graduates of the training program seeking employment in a state with licensing requirements, ClaimVets will facilitate and fund the testing and licensing fees.
ClaimVets will develop a National Mentor network compromised of members of the CLM, all who are industry professionals, many former military. Career mentoring will be provided to all graduated based on their background and career plans. Additional mentoring will be available on a local level, through the CLM chapters. They will provide a support system through involvement at monthly Chapter social, networking and educational events. In relocation situations, they will engage them on a personal level to assist with the transition.
From the job placement perspective, ClaimVets is developing a network of insurance companies and TPA's interested in hiring veterans and, in June, will provide them an Veterans' Employers Best Practices Guide and seek hiring commitments. Upon successful completion of training, each graduate will be provided an introduction to potential employers. They will also become Fellows in the CLM and introduced to their local CLM network. It is expected that the first graduates will seek employment by September 2014. Once an offer of employment has been secured, relocation assistance will be evaluated, if necessary. Graduates of the program will be invited to participate in annual CLM events and continuing education opportunities.
New classes should start every 60 days, dependent on the number of recruits.
Assessment testing and training program will be finalized with our key partners. Applications to the program will be developed. Marketing materials will be developed, highlighting the benefits of a career in claims to veterans. A job bank for open positions with CLM member organizations will be established. Recruiting efforts will then begin.
Interested candidates will undergo a skills assessment developed for the claims position. Successful recruits will begin the training. Upon completion, job placement and mentoring efforts will begin. Recruiting efforts will continue and new classes will begin every 60 days.
Curriculum of program and success will be evaluated. Additional employer partners will be sought. Recruiting will begin to focus on military before they complete their service. A ClaimVets website will begin development to provide online applications and access to employers to post opportunities. Training classes will continue.
Recruiting efforts will be expanded through advertising on Military employment sites. Training, job placement and mentoring will continue. Successful graduates will attend the Annual CLM conference.
Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the program and make changes as appropriate.
ClaimVets is a non-profit organization founded by the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance. The Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM) is an inclusive, collaborative organization that promotes and furthers the highest standards of claims and litigation management and brings together the thought leaders in both industries. CLM's Members and Fellows include risk and litigation managers, insurance and claims professionals, corporate counsel, outside counsel and third party vendors. The CLM sponsors educational programs, provides resources, and fosters communication among all in the industry.
In conjunction with this mission and in the spirit of fostering continued development, education and opportunities in the claims and litigation management discipline, ClaimVets was conceived. ClaimVets will train veterans to become claims professionals and assist in securing gainful employment in the insurance industry. Some veterans who have served since 9/11 face higher unemployment rates than their civilian peers. At the same time, the claims industry is in a talent crisis and looking for ways to promote people to pursue careers in claims. With the support of veteran's groups and insurance companies and Third-party administrators, ClaimVets will fill two significant gaps.
ClaimVets is seeking assistance in establishing strategies to identify potential recruits and employment opportunities. They are also seeking partners to support graduates with interview, resume writing, and business attire assistance on a local level. Financial assistance is also necessary to ensure growth.
ClaimVets will provide trained, licensed (where required by law) potential candidates for Claim Trainee positions. Access to the CLM network of 25,000 members of law firms, insurance professionals and service providers is also available to our strategic partners.
