Jatropha/Algae-Based Fuels in Africa

Commitment by

Liz Robbins Associates

In September 2008, the Alternative Fuels Group committed to spending $250,000 to make it possible for West African nations to make renewable diesel fuel from non-food plant oils, through implementation of projects to utilize low cost, environmentally sensitive fuel formulation methods.
AFG spent $70,000 in laboratory testing of fuel formulations that are hoped to be suitable for use in West Africa. These results have been promising, but not yet conclusive. Testing with non-food plant oils has not yet been completed, and specific projects in West Africa have not yet commenced.
