APPROACH AND METHODOLOGY
To increase the impact of giving, Jolkona will develop Jolkona U to concentrate its marketing efforts to the under 25 demographic, specifically college students. Jolkona has already started this work by targeting students at University of Washington, Seattle University, and Occidental University. The student members will receive training from Jolkona about how to promote philanthropy on campus and detailed instructions about accessing the resources on the Jolkona.org website. By the end of 2012, Jolkona U will have a presence on at least 10 U.S. college campuses that will use the Jolkona.org platform to donate money via funds raised at special events on campus.
IMPLEMENTATION, TIMELINE, AND DELIVERABLES
Spring/ Summer 2011 - Finalize the structure and metrics of Jolkona U campus chapter organizations; hypotheses for the campus chapter will be tested at University of Washington.
Fall 2011 - Officially launch the Jolkona U student group at University of Washington. Start developing relationships with 9 additional universities
2012 - Develop formal relationships with 9 additional universities to start a Jolkona U campus chapter; established Jolkona U campus chapters will begin to raise money through 'fun-raising' events in order to allocate money for projects using the Jolkona.org platform.
Too often, young professionals in their 20's and 30's are hesitant to be philanthropic because they don't have a lot of money to give or question if their donation will make a difference. Jolkona, which means 'drop of water' in Bengali, represents the idea that when it comes to charitable giving, 'every drop counts'. Jolkona developed a low-cost high-impact philanthropic platform where donors can see a tangible proof of impact for every donation. By facilitating small donations with a big impact and a personal connection, Jolkona believes will help to usher in a new era of giving, where donors feel more inspired to give, charitable organizations are able to efficiently connect to a broader donor base, and those in need of help benefit from a larger donor pool. Jolkona's mission is to garner the next generation of philanthropists by showing they can get involved in giving today. By developing Jolkona U, college students will have the opportunity to become a philanthropist and track the impact of their donations.
