ONE Award for Campaigners Against Poverty in Africa
In 2008, ONE launched the ONE Africa Award to recognize Africa-driven, Africa-led efforts, highlighting organizations that demonstrate success at a community, national or regional level, aimed at achieving the MDGs. By honoring the commitment of such organizations as well as their progress on the ground, we hope that new efforts can be inspired and more lives saved.
The first award of $100,000 was conferred on Development Communications Network Nigeria in September, 2008. Devcoms organizes immersion programs for Nigerian journalists to expose them to maternal and child mortality resources and therefore encourage better reportage so that the Nigerian public is ultimately better informed and empowered to advocate for changes in maternal and child health policy.
The award is conferred yearly and the call for 2009 proposals will be issued in June 2009.
