Microsoft's Partners in Learning is a global initiative designed to actively help schools gain better access to technology, foster innovative approaches to pedagogy and teacher professional development and provide education leaders with the tools to envision, implement and manage change. One of their key efforts is focused on empowering teachers.
The Microsoft Innovative Teachers program is built on the understanding that informed, empowered teachers are at the heart of meaningful and effective teaching and learning. By inspiring and learning from each other, educators around the world are transforming the way their students engage with the world and their learning. Today, more than a million Innovative Teachers from 75 countries connect through two initiatives: Innovative Teachers Forum and Innovative Teachers Network.
Expanding their efforts in the teachers program, Microsoft commits to train over 10 million teachers by 2013 with the skills needed to effectively integrate technology into teaching in the next five years as part of their overall Partners in Learning effort. This training includes basic digital literacy skills, the know-how to integrate technology into teaching, and the capacity to share their knowledge with other educators in the community. Microsoft will provide ongoing development opportunities through online and offline community support and forums.
Microsoft believes technology can be an important enabling tool in expanding benefits of education to communities around the world, and that teachers are critical for students to realize these benefits. Technology can enable teachers to provide rich, interactive, and expanded learning opportunities, and by reaching this critical population of teachers, Microsoft will help bring the benefits of improved education not only to students, but to the larger society as well.
We look forward to CGI helping us reach new partners and where appropriate in a specific country, aligning resources across other programs and partnerships focused on helping teachers be more effective in the classroom and building community among teachers.
