To develop Pathways software, its interface with exhibits, learning modules, and programs for a value totaling .5 million. Further, to disseminate Pathways software and learning modules to free choice learning institutions such as science centers, museums, and informal education institutions.
As knowledge grows and lifespan increases, information is becoming the most important element in developing a productive economy. In general, it is critical to augment formal education with life-long free-choice learning, which enables people to continue improving their learning skills while satisfying their learning objectives.
Modern brain research has shown that because each person learns differently, the mass production approach pioneered in the developed countries is not an effective solution for providing students with the learning skills they need. Pathways to Learning can deliver personalized learning opportunities tailored to the interests and capabilities of its users. It will enable people in developing countries to build upon their skills their people as they make the enormous investments necessary to provide improved formal education.
Pathways to Learning is currently undergoing development as the centerpiece of a new science center in downtown Tucson, Arizona, and is the product of a continuing partnership between the University and the City of Tucson. Tucson-with its great diversity and changing economy-will demonstrate its capacity embrace free-choice learning as a critical entry-point to the age of information. The ability of Pathways to Learning to deliver its value independent of expensive infrastructure will enable it to reach cities worldwide, both in developed and developing countries.
