Commitment to Action

P&G Future Friendly Cold Water Washing

Commitment by

Procter & Gamble

In 2011, P&G and its Tide brand committed to reaching 100 million US households (cumulative) by Earth Day 2013 with educational information to help drive consumer behavior changes from hot/warm water washing habits to cold water washing. This educational campaign will be supported by Future Friendly, P&G's natural resource education initiative, and the Alliance to Save Energy, and will highlight the energy savings and CO2 reduction benefits of cold water washing. By washing in cold water, U.S. consumers can save up to 70 percent of energy per wash load. If every US consumer washed in cold water, the US would reduce CO2 emissions by 11 million metric tons per year. This initiative is in support of P&G's commitment to convert 70 percent of the world's washing machine loads to cold water by 2020.
