Saudi Arabia's Commitment to End Polio

In 2011, his Majesty King Abdullah committed to pledge $30 million to the Secretary General of the United Nations to ensure that poliomyelitis is eradicated from the world. This initiative includes partners such as the WHO, UNICEF, CDC, Rotary International, the United Nations Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It aimed to vaccinate every immigrant entering the Kingdom for the Hajj. In addition, the Kingdom committed to have diplomatic representatives in all affected countries make presentations to governments at national and state levels about the importance of immunization.
