In collaboration with leading public and private partners, GOGLA founded Power for All to advance decentralized renewable energy (DRE) solutions as the fastest, most cost-effective and sustainable approach to universal energy access. Unifying the voice of the DRE sector is a critical component to creating a strong, consistent, and confident voice for the sector as a credible, legitimate energy sector. Therefore, recruiting and engaging the disparate DRE leaders to join the campaign and present the sector in a compelling, coordinated fashion is essential. The campaign will provide access to materials and encourage collective action and common messaging, while also providing active proof of the strength in numbers.
With the Scaling Up Power for All Commitment, GOGLA will play a leading role in supporting Power for All to recruit 100 organizations as partners in the Power for All Campaign and train all partners in pro-DRE messaging, largely through webinars. GOGLA and its partners will help develop a target list of companies and organizations, assist in recruitment, and add campaign materials and collateral and update relevant materials such as websites. They will also create a campaign database or companies and organizations serving the sector.
GOGLA will devote significant resources to scaling up Power for All over the next year, utilizing its industry-leading network of renewable energy equipment manufacturers, installers, and related business and non-profit key players. The Commitment will begin with its first quarter from October through December and will target 25 partners with four trainings.
The second quarter, from January through March 2016, will target 50 partners and eight trainings cumulatively.
The projects third quarter will run from April through June and will target a total of 75 partners and 12 trainings.
The projects final quarter will run from July through September and will achieve 100 partners and 16 trainings cumulatively.
Business-as-usual approaches to energy delivery, including the time and money needed to build traditional power plants, as well as the costs and inefficiencies of grid energy delivery, will fail to bring energy access to the 85 percent of those living without it in rural areas by 2030. Evidence suggests that the growing range of proven and scalable off-grid options, encompassing a wide range of distributed generation and decentralized renewable energy solutions (DG or DRE) including pico solar, pay-as-you-go home systems, mini-grids, and mobile solar farms are immediately deployable, widely affordable, and can deliver universal energy access in half the time for ten percent of currently predicted costs.
While the DRE sector is experiencing rapid growth, it has yet to be widely perceived as the core solution to achieving universal energy access. This is largely due to the lack of a strong and unified sector voice, little proactive education and communication about the sector and its ability to deliver on 2030 goals, and limited integration with high-profile organized efforts in climate and energy policy.
The Global Off-Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA) and its fellow founding members of Power for All seek to address these challenges by building both a grasstops and grassroots campaign, the latter focused on building capacity within the sector itself. Developing capacity within the sector to combat this perception issue is the focus of GOGLAs Scaling Up Power for All Commitment.
Power for All is a global campaign pushing to radically accelerate universal energy access and focus on decentralized renewable energy (DRE), such as pico solar, minigrids and rooftop PV, as the fastest, cleanest and most costeffective solution to energy poverty. Partners are looking for funding to support their efforts.
Commitment partners will have access to campaign logos and related marketing assets, such as presentations and collateral, messaging and proof points, referral from media, and potential speaking and networking opportunities.
