We are committed to working together to educate, advocate and mobilize on behalf of bipartisan support for more effective and innovative U.S. leadership on international human rights and humanitarian issues. Our inaugural effort is a day long conference, entitled Uncommon Leadership for Common Values, held at Georgetown University and the Aspen Institute on November 1, 2005. The conference--for policymakers, activists and students--includes presentations on four topics: 1. Protecting religious liberty; 2. Stopping trafficking in human beings; 3. Helping refugees and the displaced; 4) halting and preventing genocide. Among the participants and presenters are U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton, U.S. Representative Frank Wolf, Rabbi David Saperstein, Dr. Richard Land, General Wes Clark and David Gompert. An original publication, produced for distribution at the conference, contains information about each of these four challenges, and includes suggestions for volunteers who are interested in helping to address them. The conference itself is followed by a roundtable discussion at the Aspen Institute designed to articulate more broadly the opportunity that exists for Democrats and Republicans to work together on behalf of conflict resolution, human rights and the alleviation of human suffering.
