College students at their respective universities will build community around sports teams, especially soccer, which include students and people who are homeless, especially teens and young adults who are homeless. The students will likewise involved member sof the community served in all aspects of the program development and leadership. Dynamic, relationship, and sport-based approaches humanize the plight of the homeless and leads to individual and broader social change by bringing members of different socio-economic groups together through team sports. In the case of Street Soccer USA for nearly five years its relationship, sports-based programming for the homeless achieved a 75% positive impact among the chronically homeless and teen homeless. The program connected clients to GED tutoring, job placement, housing, and substance abuse treatment. With sports as the foundation of homeless service efforts, lives can be changed and pathway to the eradication ofhomelessness become evident. This grassroots approach has proved very appealing and transformative not only to clients, but also to university age students. The trust build through playing together leads to real exchange and deep insigth in the the nuances and sources of homelessness.
