Solazyme will scale production of their oils and expand delivery to companies who will incorporate the oils into products that will be available on store shelves starting in the fall of 2014 and expanding into additional product lines over the next few years. Solazyme's sustainable oils will be incorporated into a wide range of products, including food, personal care, chemicals and more. These sustainable oils will have a broad reach and will be manufactured on multiple continents, including North America and South America.
Solazyme will build out a technology platform to produce various oils for several markets and will develop partnerships with a wide range of companies.
- Early 2014: Solazyme will produce sustainable alternative oils to palm, palm kernel oil, as well as high oleic oils out of their first large scale plants in Brazil and the US that will be commissioning at the end of 2013.
- 2014: Ramping production of oils. In addition, Solazyme will continue to build out its suite of oils into other areas such as very long chain oils and high myristic oils as well.
- 2014: Solazyme will simultaneously build out its food ingredients business. Solazyme will announce further commercial oil sales agreements throughout this time frame, with partners bringing products to market soon thereafter.
In early 2013, AT Kearney, as a commitment to CGI, completed a report on the crisis surrounding unsustainable sources of oil such as Palm Oil and Palm Kernel Oil and their impact on fragile ecosystems around the equator by driving deforestation and other environmental issues. Separately, Solazyme has been developing and commercializing its renewable oil production technology that converts biomass into a replacement for palm and other heart healthy high oleic oils using algae. With two major production facilities coming online at the end of 2013, Solazyme has been working with industry leaders to help switch out their current sources of unsustainable oils for this new source of renewable oil. Solazyme's renewable oil production plant in Brazil alone, when at full capacity, will have a GHG (greenhouse gas) reductions impact equivalent to planting 10 million trees a year.
Solazyme is offering its renewable oil technology globally to home and personal care, food, chemical, fuel companies and government entities that are interested in a new source of oils for healthier foods, healthier products and a healthier planet and environment
Starting with microalgae, the world's original oil producer, Solazyme creates new, sustainable, high-performance products. These include renewable oils and powerhouse ingredients that serve as the foundation for healthier foods, better home, personal care and industrial products, and more sustainable fuels. Solazyme is offering partnership opportunities for those interested in using renewable oils and ingredients to improve products for consumers and the planet.
