Unlocking the Power of Microalgae: New Sustainable Oil

Commitment by

Solazyme, Inc.

In 2013, Solazyme committed to scaling the production of a new source of sustainable renewable microalgal oil for use in consumer products. Solazyme will use one of the world's smallest microbes, microalgae, to help arrest environmental damage in fragile equatorial ecosystems through the replacement of palm oil in products with microalgal oil. Solazyme's oils are produced in a matter of days by using algae to convert biomass to oils and have been third party validated to be the most sustainable source of oil ever produced. Solazyme's technology divorces geography from natural oil production so tropical oils can now be produced anywhere, thus alleviating deforestation pressures around the fragile equator band. This commitment will also benefit partners using microalgal oil by providing 100 percent traceability and shortened supply chains.
