The new program addressing training students in water sustainability and conservation will target emerging leaders in 30 secondary schools throughout New Zealand. The students are expected to then provide leadership in their schools on the issues of water and how to address them for maximum impact. Average school roll is approximately 670 thus the broad impact is on approximately 20,100 students. The impact on pre-service teachers and teachers is also large. The teachers provide new ideas and implement programs in school on sustainability and the pre-service teacher will mostly gain jobs in different school (than the 30 indicated) and have the potential to influence other schools. This impact is hard to quantify but is happening. The schools cover a wide range of ethnic backgrounds.
Initially, Untouched World Ltd. would expect to bring some teachers and teachers-in-training from their supply chain countries - in the first year 6 people. In the second and third year, teachers, training teachers and students (12) will develop a partnership to implement an Indian and Chinese version of an in depth leadership program with youth specifically focused on how to take effective action on locally-relevant issues related to water. In the third year, one program would be up and running in both India and China and starting to delivering outcomes in these communities.

Educational leadership with a specific focus on action capability (the balance between knowledge and skills to act) and action competence (intentional willingness to do so) - this concepts matches the CGI concept of 'commitment to action.' The context of Untouched World Ltd.'s existing programs addresses consumption and renewable resources, biodiversity, and sustainable cities. Their CGI commitment is to develop a new program (2009) to address water use, quality, and availability.
I. Untouched World Ltd.'s commitment is to provide the programs, strategies and tools to ensure that the students and teachers increase their ability to take effective action.
2. Their commitment is to ensure that there is an opportunity for students to display their action potential and action commitment in a public forum to engage the support of the community to implement their actions.
There is an urgent need to go beyond addressing the mere symptoms of global issues related to sustainability, and focus on the underlying problems and ways in which they can enable young leaders to ensure there is adequate resources for future generations. For example, cleaning up a waterway by picking up rubbish is addressing a symptom, focusing on deep causes of why the waterway is full of rubbish is addressing the real problem.
This program will build upon programs Untouched World has already initiated expanding into training on water sustainability. The development of confidence in leadership ability and skills is crucial to these programs. In the past their participants have accomplished such actions after their training as going to the local city council and having laws changed as a result.
Investment Capital, Donations, Grants, Businesses wishing to partner and co-fund this program - such as hotel chains giving a few cents for every towel not washed, and the CGI community engaging their networks in the Untouched World online CGI program where every purchase made using the CGI code will have 50% of profits donated to the CGI program*.
