Since 2001, the Clinton Foundation has worked to improve lives around the world and build upon President Clinton’s legacy of public service.
Yunnan Biogas Toilet Project
In 2008, Hang Seng Bank committed to build 300 biogas toilets for the Huo Ji Hei village in Yunnan province. The biogas toilets will store methane gases for use to power cooking and lighting in the home. The project will save 750 tons of firewood every year (equivalent to 30 acres of forest) and reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 3,750 tons.?The project was initiated by The Conservancy Association.
The project started in December 2008. A team of Hang Seng volunteers from Hong Kong and the Mainland assisted the construction of the bio-gas toilets in December 2008. As of April 2009, 168 toilets were being built.
