Resilience for the Long-Term
Climate change and increasingly frequent natural disasters are forcing a paradigm shift in hurricane planning in the Caribbean, prompting the public sector, private sector and civil society to build more resilient infrastructure, economies and societies. But this shift is not easy and comes with a high price – developing projects and interventions that help communities build back better following natural disasters often requires significant financial investment, longer timeframes to complete, and buy-in from diverse community members and institutions. With the global community looking to the Caribbean as a model for addressing climate change in the 21st century, it is more critical than ever to find effective, affordable and scalable ways to overcome these barriers. As the CGI Action Network convenes for a fourth time, this opening plenary session will explore some of the pioneering technologies, approaches and people who are leading this paradigm shift towards Caribbean resilience.
