CGI U Programs

CGI U is proud to partner with organizations dedicated to creating social impact in the next generation of student leaders, providing enriching opportunities and experiences for CGI U participants and alumni, and supporting the year-round work of the CGI U program.

CGI U and IBM will host a series of Call for Code Hackathons in 2021 that engage and inspire the next generation of global leaders on college campuses to harness modern, emerging, and open source technologies to develop solutions tackling climate change and racial justice. Participating students will have access to IBM technological resources and content experts to engage with and help bring ideas to life, and students from winning teams will receive cash prizes and the opportunity to participate in the next CGI U program. Undergraduate and graduate students from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to participate.

The Peter G. Peterson Foundation

Since 2012, CGI U has partnered with The Peter G. Peterson Foundation and Net Impact to organize the national student program Up to Us. Up to Us is a nonpartisan leadership program that challenges college students to engage their peers on complex civic issues like the national debt through advocacy and awareness campaigns. Up to Us participants receive $1,000 in project funding, leadership trainings, and all-expenses-paid access to national conferences. Since 2012, Up to Us teams have activated more than 230,000 college students through innovative and interactive campus activities.

In partnership with CGI U, Verizon will help college students develop solutions that address social issues with the support of specialized curriculum and programming, as well as provide access to experts in technology and innovation. These resources will be available to all CGI U students for one year and have a specific focus on engaging students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and community colleges. This is part of Citizen Verizon, Verizon's responsible business plan for economic, environmental and social advancement.  This programming highlights Verizon’s commitment to support the development of technology-based solutions - including those leveraging the power of 5G - to address significant societal challenges, while simultaneously working to diversify the voices in the next generation of innovators. Students will have the opportunity to participate in an innovation challenge for a chance to be sponsored in an accelerator program and pitch for seed funding.
