Sam Adams

Former Mayor of Portland, Oregon, Director, U.S. Climate Initiative, World Resources Institute

Sam Adams is the former Mayor of Portland, Oregon. As director of World Resources Institute’s (WRI) U.S. Climate Initiative Adams leads WRI’s efforts to analyze and develop new policies, build political will and support coalitions that will encourage the U.S.’s transition to a strong, low-carbon economy. “Sam is a dynamic and savvy leader, who will invigorate U.S. climate activities at a critical time for the nation and planet,” said Dr. Andrew Steer, President & CEO, WRI. “As Mayor, a member of the city council, mayoral chief of staff and nonprofit leader, Sam played a central role in making Portland, Oregon one of the most livable and sustainable cities in the United States. We are excited to have his leadership to build support for national action that will address the climate challenge.” As mayor, Adams ensured that sustainability was integrated across all city-level decisions by combining the sustainability office and city planning agency. He also led a coalition of government, business and labor leaders, along with neighborhood and environmental advocates, to create Portland’s Climate Action Plan and “We Build Green Cities” job creation and economic development strategy. According to the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, the city’s emissions were cut by 11 percent between 1990 and 2013, alongside significant population and economic growth. Adams holds a B.A. in political science from University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.

Yasmin Ali Haque

Deputy Director of UNICEF Office of Emergency Programmes, United Nations Children's Fund

Yasmin Ali Haque currently holds the position of Deputy Director of the Office of Emergency Programmes in NYHQ. Prior to joining her current assignment, Haque served as Representative for United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in South Sudan since its Independence in July 2011, having been the Director for the South Sudan Area Programme since June 2010. Previously, Haque was UNICEF Representative in Ghana from June 2007. Earlier, in 2004, she was appointed the Deputy Representative in UNICEF Sri Lanka where she was responsible for programmatic guidance of the country programme and the tsunami emergency response programme. Haque joined UNICEF Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1996 as Project Officer for Health and Nutrition. She contributed significantly to national policy analysis and strategic planning for maternal health and maternal mortality reduction, in context of the rights-based approach.

Karen Basiye

Karen Basiye is the senior manager sustainability and social policy at Safaricom limited. She has a master of science in environmental policy and sustainability policy from Central European University in collaboration with Lund University and Manchester University. She has over 10 years’ experience in policy analysis and 8 years in sustainability and social policy. Karen is in charge of Safaricom’s sustainability and social policy agenda that covers: sustainability reporting and integrating across the company, children’s rights and business principles, gender based violence, road safety, women and children and youth empowerment. In her line of work she works closely with Safaricom’s team in charge of mHealth where technology is used to address various health challenges.

Byrne is a member of Barclays’ Senior Leadership Group and is Chairman of the Barclays’ Social Innovation Facility, a cross-business resource dedicated to the development of self-sustaining commercial solutions to social challenges. Don Chen

Director, Equitable Development, The Ford Foundation

Don Chen leads the Equitable Development team, supporting urban development strategies to reduce poverty, expand economic opportunities, and advance sustainability in cities and regions in the US and developing countries—with a focus on shaping the delivery systems for affordable housing, community improvement, infrastructure, and city and regional planning. Chen joined the foundation in 2008 as a program officer and assumed the role of director in 2015. Previously, he was the founder and CEO of Smart Growth America, where he led efforts to create the National Vacant Properties Campaign and Transportation for America and managed a merger with the Growth Management Leadership Alliance. He has authored many pieces on land use, transportation, social equity, and environmental policy. Don has also served on the boards of the Funders’ Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities, West Harlem Environmental Action, the Environmental Leadership Program, and Grist magazine. He holds a master’s degree from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Yale University.

Chelsea Clinton

Chelsea Clinton’s work at the Clinton Foundation emphasizes improving global and domestic health, creating service opportunities, and empowering the next generation of leaders. President Bill Clinton

Founding Chairman, Clinton Global Initiative, 42nd President of the United States

Elected president of the United States in 1992 and 1996, President Bill Clinton was the first Democratic president in six decades to be elected twice. Under his leadership, the United States enjoyed the strongest economy in a generation and the longest economic expansion in its history. His administration resulted in moving the nation from record deficits to record surpluses; the creation of over 22 million jobs; low levels of unemployment, poverty and crime; and the highest home ownership and college enrollment rates in history. Fiona Cousins

Arup Fellow; Principal, Mechanical Engineering and Sustainability Consulting, Arup

Fiona Cousins leads the Sustainability team in Arup’s New York office, is a leader of the Mechanical engineering team, directs technical investments for Arup’s Americas Region and is a member of the Arup Americas Board. She is a mechanical engineer by profession and has spent much of her career engaged in HVAC design, with an area of specialization in thermal comfort and energy efficiency. She is a frequent presenter on transformative sustainable building design and has presented technical papers in the areas of low-energy design and sustainability. Cousins is a LEED® Accredited Professional and has led a number of projects pursuing the highest levels of LEED goals. Cousins served as the chair of the New York Chapter of the USGBC (Urban Green) for two years. She is currently chair of the USGBC.

Steve Davis

President and CEO, PATH

Steve Davis combines extensive experience as a technology business leader, global health advocate, and social innovator to accelerate great ideas and bring lifesaving solutions to scale.
Davis’ commitment to human rights and development grew from early work on refugee programs and policies, and from his later focus on Chinese politics and law. He has led a range of private and nonprofit organizations, including as Chief Executive Officer of the global digital media firm Corbis, director of social innovation for McKinsey & Company, and interim Chief Executive Officer of the Infectious Disease Research Institute. Davis is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), serves on the boards of InterAction and Global Partnerships, and sits on several advisory groups, including at the World Economic Forum and the Clinton Global Initiative. Davis earned his BA from Princeton University, his MA in Chinese studies from the University of Washington, and his JD from Columbia University.

Brian Geller

Brian Geller is Senior Vice President of Corporate Sustainability at Citi, part of a team responsible for developing and executing in Citi’s corporate sustainability strategy and $100 Billion Environmental Finance initiative; developing sustainability initiatives and strategies in partnership with the businesses; tracking environmental issues and providing advice; engaging with SRI and NGO stakeholders; and helping to develop the reporting strategy for Citi’s overall sustainability performance. Geller was formerly the Founder and Executive Director of the Seattle 2030 District, a public-private partnership of property owners, managers, design professionals, King County and The City of Seattle to create America’s first High-Performance Building District. Geller has a Masters Degree in Architecture from Parsons School of Design and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Skidmore College.

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed is the Founder and Chairperson of BRAC, the largest development organization in the world in terms of the scale and diversity of its interventions. Fred Kent

Henriette Kolb

Head Gender Secretariat, International Finance Corporation

Henriette Kolb is the Head of the Gender Secretariat at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. She serves as an advocate for gender equality issues in the private sector and leads a team that works with IFC’s clients to include both women and men as entrepreneurs, employees, consumers, community stakeholders and leaders. Before joining IFC in September 2013, Kolb was the CEO of the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, where she remains involved as a senior advisor. Earlier in her career, Henriette was the UN representative in the Middle East Quartet team advising Tony Blair in Jerusalem. She also worked for the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO). She has held positions as governance advisor with the European Commission Delegation to Tanzania, the German Technical Cooperation Agency in Germany, and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Tanzania, where she worked on conflict reduction, civic education, and socioeconomic issues in East Africa.

Carolyn Miles

President and CEO, Save the Children

Carolyn Miles is President and CEO of Save the Children. The global Save the Children movement serves over 166 million children in the U.S. and in more than 120 countries. Miles joined the organization in 1998, was COO from 2004-2011, and became President and CEO in September 2011. Under her senior leadership, the organization has more than doubled the number of children it reaches with nutrition, health, education and other programs. Prior to Save the Children, she worked for American Express in Hong Kong. While in Asia, her confrontation with the deprivation of the region’s children motivated her to dedicate her life to their welfare. Miles has served on numerous boards, including Blackbaud, InterAction, USGLC, MFAN, Academy of Education, Arts and Sciences, and the UVA’s Darden School of Business, where she received her MBA. In 2015, Miles was named one of the 50 World's Greatest Leaders by Fortune magazine.

Jennifer Morris

Chief Operating Officer, Conservation International

As Chief Operating Officer for Conservation International (CI), Jennifer Morris provides strategic leadership and is responsible for aligning the organization’s programmatic and operational functions. Tim Murphy

General Counsel and Chief Franchise Officer, MasterCard

Tim Murphy is general counsel and chief franchise officer for MasterCard. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing legal affairs, public policy, corporate secretary and compliance. Murphy also has responsibility for franchise development and integrity, corporate security and privacy, and global diversity. He is a member of the company’s Management Committee. Prior to assuming this role, Murphy was chief product officer. Christopher J.L. Murray

Director, Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation

Christopher J.L. Murray is a Professor of Global Health at the University of Washington and Institute Director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) whose career has focused on improving health for everyone worldwide by improving health evidence. A physician and health economist, his work has led to the development of a range of new methods and empirical studies to strengthen health measurement, analyze the performance of public health and medical care systems, and assess the cost effectiveness of health technologies. Murray is a founder of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) approach, a systematic effort to quantify the comparative magnitude of health loss due to diseases, injuries, and risk factors by age, sex, and geography over time. He led the collaborative of almost 500 researchers from 50 countries that produced the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2010 (GBD 2010).

Laurence Steinberg

Distinguished University Professor of Psychology, Temple University

Laurence Steinberg is one of the world’s leading experts on adolescence. Currently, he is the Distinguished University Professor of Psychology at Temple University. He is the author of approximately 400 articles and essays on development during the teenage years, and the author or editor of 17 books, including Adolescence, the leading college textbook on the subject. His latest book is Age of Opportunity: Lessons From the New Science of Adolescence. His research has focused on a range of topics, including adolescent brain and psychological development, risk-taking and decision-making, family and peer relationships, and school achievement. He has also written for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post, and is a frequent guest on NPR. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Hamdi Ulukaya

Hamdi Ulukaya founded Chobani in upstate New York in 2005 and launched Chobani Greek Yogurt in 2007. Five years later, Chobani became the No. 1–selling Greek Yogurt brand in the U.S. with more than a billion dollars in annual sales. Ulukaya’s vision for Chobani has effectively transformed an entire food category. Additionally, Chobani gives 10% of its profits to support organizations with similar values. In 2015, Ulukaya signed The Giving Pledge and committed majority of his personal wealth to help bring an end to the global refugee crisis. Ulukaya launched his personal foundation, Tent, to back policies and provide support, partnerships and urgent assistance to refugees and displaced people. Hamdi was named an Eminent Advocate by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), is a member of the Presidential Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship (PAGE), and received a 2015 United Nations Foundation Global Leadership Award for his humanitarian commitment.
