Black History Month Educator Workshop Part 1

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR EDUCATORS

Join us for our Black History Month professional development workshop on Saturday, February 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. Part 1,Breaking Barriers: Culturally Responsive Strategies for Educators, will provide an open forum for educators to reflect on their experiences working with students from diverse backgrounds and explore barriers that may impact student success.

Educators will examine cultural expressions such as speech, food, spiritual practices, and family dynamics, focusing on African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and its historical and linguistic significance. Additionally, discussions will highlight the influence of internet culture, particularly TikTok and social media, on student communication. Through interactive dialogue, teachers will develop strategies to build meaningful relationships, foster cultural understanding, and respect the diverse identities of their students. The session will conclude with an interview featuring a teacher who actively implements cultural competence strategies in their classroom, providing practical insights and real-world applications for fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Arkansas teachers will receive two hours of professional development credit for attending this session.

Workshops are recommended, but not required, to be completed as a set.
