Jordan Pioneers and Funworks Media, through the children's program Yalafanous, will provide high-quality, entertaining television, with positive social content and characters that are authentic and rooted in Arab and Muslim culture and religious tradition.
As a children's program, Yalafanous will include themes which address the following issues: enhance cultural pride; stimulate critical and innovative thinking; promote appreciation and tolerance of differences; advance the role of women in society; encourage team effort; project a multi-faceted image of Islamic culture and tradition as entertaining television viewing for Western children.
Positive role models for Arab and Muslim children and youth are sadly lacking in the mass media. The leading organizations and personnel involved with the commitment have extensive experience in production of children's media and educational products in the Middle East and elsewhere. They have worked on Sesame Street and many other children's programs, including adaptation of religious themes for a wide audience.
The aim is to make the project viable in the long-term without subsidies and external support. The implementation strategy after securing initial funding is to produce a pilot program based on extensive research. The pilot will be used to obtain broadcast commitments which will be a basis for licensing and other arrangements for a range of educational and general products.
