Wal-Mart Detergent Commitment

In 2007, Walmart committed to selling only concentrated versions of liquid laundry detergent in all of its U. S. stores by 2008. This commitment will, in effect, move the retail industry from standard sized to concentrated liquid detergent bottles. - more than 800 million units over the next three years alone. By estimating the annual purchases of all Walmart customers over the next three years - more than 800 million units - Walmart anticipates the impact of this effort will save:
- more than 430 million gallons of water;
- more than 80 million pounds of plastic resin; and
- more than 125 million pounds of cardboard.
The potential savings in the industry estimated to be four times as much. Additionally, we have began applying our best practices to utilize concentrated versions of detergent in our international markets as well.
