Health Education and Health Financing for the Poor

Commitment by

Healing Fields Foundation

In 2010, the Healing Fields Foundation committed to train a group of women to become 'Barefoot Community Health Leaders' to lead their villages in preventing illness. The program aimed to harness local government programs to improve access to healthcare and accessing affordable healthcare through financing. The women leaders focused on reproductive health, maternal health, child health, sanitation, hygiene, and nutrition. The women also organized health financing groups to teach individuals to save money and provide small loans for health expenses to be used in medical emergencies and managed by village women.
