Today, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton, and Chelsea Clinton joined more than 1,000 students from over 80 countries and all 50 states to begin the seventh annual meeting of CGI U at Arizona State University (ASU).
Secretary Clinton opened the meeting by highlighting the 695 Commitments to Action that this year's attendees had made. After Michael Crow, President of ASU, welcomed the students to campus, President Clinton hit the stage and invited past commitment-makers to speak to the progress of their work.
President Clinton then welcomed Senator John McCain, Wikipedia Founder Jimmy Wales, Right2Dignity and BlueNetworks’ Manal Al-Sharif, and Harvard University Student Shree Bose to the stage for a conversation on social change in the age of participation.

On Thursday and Friday, the Clinton Foundation and Microsoft Youthspark hosted a codeathon for CGI U and ASU students to develop projects inspired by the work of CGI U commitment-makers. The participating teams presented their work to Chelsea Clinton and a panel of judges this afternoon, and the winners will be announced tomorrow. Chelsea documented the competition on the Clinton Foundation Instagram account, which she's taking over for CGI U.
CGI U 2014 Commitments Challenge: Championship Round
Congratulations to Purdue University and Washington University in St. Louis for making it to the championship round in the CGI U 2014 Commitments Challenge. This year, CGI U partnered with CrowdRise to power the Challenge, with student teams competing against each other by raising funds for their commitments. So far, these teams have raised more than $50,000 to turn their ideas into action. The top four teams received $1,250 in funding and the winner will receive an additional $5,000, made possible by Craig Newmark, founder of craigslist.org and craigconnects.
You can vote in the final round of the challenge by donating to your favorite of the two final commitments at www.cgiu.org/challenge. The final round of voting will end Saturday, March 22 at 3:59 PM ET, and the winner will be announced during the closing session.
