UBS is committed to organizing the UBS Philanthropy Forum 2007, a gathering of philanthropists and leaders from civil society in the spring of 2007 in Lisbon, Portugal.
In past years, we have looked at the prospects of exercising leadership through philanthropy and explored how to create leverage.
For the 2007 edition of the UBS Philanthropy Forum, we propose to go a step further. We will to take a systematic look at inflection points in philanthropy.
In 24 workshops and four plenary sessions speakers will discuss together with participants about subjects related to the issue of timing.
Inspired by the Global Clinton Initiative the Philanthropy Forum 2007 will host a climate change working group of large donors who would like to give quietly yet effectively.
Building up on the tremendous success of the Philanthropy Forum 2006 which dealt with creating leverage, in June 2007, over 40 civil society leaders and more than 100 global philanthropists will meet in Lisbon, Portugal to discuss the inflection point. The main questions that will be discussed are how can philanthropists identify the inflection point? What are the leading indicators to be watched? Which type of intervention at that point will be effective? When is it too late, and exit is the only alternative?
The Forum will also discuss issues that concern governance and performance: How can philanthropists properly institutionalize their efforts? What does performance on the long run mean? How can philanthropists ensure that their money produces substantial social impact? What is the role of professional intermediaries?
Participants will share their experience in more than 20 workshops regarding these issues while operating in a problem solving mode, working through case studies and analyzing research results.
