300 children and youth living in Dagoretti Children's Garden, Home and School have faced: domestic violence, suffered abuse, abandonment by their families, living in extreme conditions and are therefore often living with limited or no access to educational opportunities. At least 65% of the children are at risk of never going to school or completing their schooling. These youth are also exposed to at-risk behaviors, ex. crime, drugs, promiscuity, as opposed to opportunities aimed at developing their leadership abilities or involvement in community projects.
GP Connect will strengthen youth community leadership by providing educational and life-skills knowledge access to these youth through a community driven development process at the Dagoretti community.
GP Connect will utilize the library constructed to implement life and vocational skill workshops in order to provide resources and solutions focused in youth leadership, youth organization, youth citizen responsibility, youth projects & social entrepreneurship. The project will focus on the use of the library to provide literacy and knowledge access workshops aimed at preventing school desertion & grade school repetition for youth and children at risk.
