The CGI 10th Annual Meeting: Monday Highlights


Today marked the official kick-off of CGI’s milestone 10th Annual Meeting—with more than 1,000 leaders coming together to take action through a variety of sessions and networking opportunities held throughout the day. The 2014 theme of “Reimagining Impact” guides CGI members in better measuring and assessing the outcomes of their work, and rethinking how we create value through new approaches to address complex global challenges going forward.

Opening Conversation with former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton

Secretary Clinton discussed reimagining the role of big data in solving the world's most pressing issues and the importance of girls' and women's participation with Jim Yong Kim of the World Bank Group and Ginni Rometty of IBM. See the full conversation.

Expanding to New Challenges

President Bill Clinton and His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan announced a group of new commitments focused on cross-sector solutions in the country. Watch their discussion with President Michelle Bachelet of the Republic of Chile that followed.

Ted Waitt of the Waitt Foundation joined President Clinton on-stage to announce the first large-scale convening of the CGI Oceans Action Network, taking place in Boston in March 2015. Confronting Climate Change

Mayor Eric Garcetti of Los Angeles, Mayor Annise Parker of Houston, and Mayor Michael Nutter of Philadelphia announced the Mayors' National Climate Action Agenda. The Commitment to Action that aims to push forward initiatives that address climate change in their cities.

Judith Rodin of the Rockefeller Foundation spoke with Henry M. Paulson Jr. of the Paulson Institute and Prime Minister of Denmark Helle Thorning-Schmidt about doubling-down on proven solutions that provide economic opportunities and strengthen vital ecosystems.
