At age 11, our youngest Ceiling Breaker Jodi Evans is an inspirational role model for young girls and children's health activists. Jodi is one of the most vocal and passionate members for children's health in her community of Bowie, Maryland. Jodi Evans is serving her third term as a member of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation's Youth Advisory Board, one of the only youth-led advisory groups in the country focused on childhood obesity issues. She joined the board because she wanted to teach youth how to be healthy in fun and creative ways like setting goals, making better choices, and staying committed to a healthy lifestyle. In Jodi's own words, “It is important for youth to have a voice in the fight against childhood obesity because youth influence each other. The healthy habits we maintain today can become the healthy habits we maintain as adults.”
In conjunction with her membership on the Youth Advisory Board, Jodi has been active in her community to create new and fun ways for her peers to make smart health decisions and be active. Jodi started KidsBeingFit, a kids fitness group that partners with health and fitness organizations to lead fun fitness exercises for youth. On Global Youth Service Day, Jodi hosted an annual "Fun Run & Walk" for kids in her community, and is looking forward to hosting it again in 2015. In addition, Jodi created a health and fitness display at Prince George’s County Bowie Library and started the Bowie Wellness Council.
Jodi is also a model of fitness and health herself. In 2012, she was a medalist at the USA Taekwondo 2012 Junior Olympics. Jodi is an inspiration to youth who are passionate about social issues and want to impact their communities. And Jodi is a great example of a confident, healthy young girl living her best life story.
