Wisconsin is making significant progress in the fight against the overdose crisis. After six years of steadily climbing, in 2023 both total overdose deaths and opioid overdose deaths decreased slightly across the state.

This isn’t a fluke. It’s the result of years of research, concerted efforts at the state, federal and community level, and the right funding to get lifesaving resources into the hands of first responders and community members.

This week, the Trump administration announced plans to fully cut federal funding for the distribution of naloxone, a lifesaving overdose reversal drug. This is a mistake and could hurt communities across Wisconsin.
