Educator Professional Development: Signs of Learning – Basic American Sign Language

Join us Saturday, September 19 at 11 a.m. for an engaging and accessible American Sign Language (ASL) workshop for educators and the public. This hands-on session will showcase lessons on Deaf Culture and basic ASL skills to help create meaningful connections with students and community members who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This program is offered free of charge.

Facilitator LaHollis Hill, Administrative Specialist and American Sign Language (ASL) educator at the Arkansas School for the Deaf and Blind, will lead participants through an interactive introduction to foundational ASL signs and offer practical tips and tools guests can use right away.

By equipping teachers and other participants with this language of connection, this workshop supports the creation of more inclusive and responsive environments to help members of the Deaf community feel seen and supported.

Educators who complete the complimentary workshop will receive two hours of professional development credit.

More about LaHollis

LaHollis Hill works as an Administrative Specialist and teaches American Sign Language (ASL) at the Arkansas School for the Blind and Deaf. He coaches cheerleading and track teams and also runs a Photography and Event Planning business. LaHollis actively volunteers and holds leadership roles in several organizations, including being the President of the Little Rock Black Deaf Advocates and the Arkansas School for the Deaf Alumni Association. He also founded the Arkansas Rainbow Diamond Deaf Social. LaHollis is committed to helping organizations succeed and is known for being friendly, funny, and creative. In his free time, he enjoys watching movies, hiking, traveling, taking photos, shopping, and spending time with his two dogs, Star and Twinkle.
