Statement: Nobel Recipient President Carter

I cannot think of anyone more qualified to receive this year's Nobel Peace Prize than President Jimmy Carter. He continues to inspire people everywhere, young and old alike, through his vigorous quest for peace, justice and a better quality of life for all citizens of the world. President Carter's decades of public service have been characterized by a strong sense of faith, a heartfelt commitment to human rights and an abiding determination to fight poverty, disease and oppression.

The Nobel Peace Prize was made for people like Jimmy Carter, and Hillary and I extend our warmest congratulations to him and Rosalynn on this joyous occasion. This award is a tribute to America, to the cause of peace in the world, and especially to President Carter and his lifetime of service.
