Statement: Death of Former Japanese Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto

I am saddened by the loss of former Prime Minister Hashimoto. He was my friend, and we worked together to reinforce our security alliance and expand our economic relationship. With vision and political courage, he fought hard to reform the Japanese economy and restore his people's faith in Japan's financial strength. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kumiko, and family.
