Statement: Death of Admiral William Crowe

America has lost a patriot and statesman. Admiral William Crowe was a brilliant military leader and a highly effective ambassador to Great Britain at a critical time for both the UK and Europe. After the terrorist bombings of our embassies in 1998, he chaired a commission on the security of our diplomatic missions, which led to new security standards that now safeguard the lives of thousands of American public servants and their co-workers around the world. I will always be grateful for his service, his wise, unvarnished advice, his invaluable support in 1992, and his friendship with Hillary and me. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Shirley and the entire Crowe family.
